description Description

Buckles made in Taiwan

As first seen on our Cargo Kit Bag, this set of gatekeeper buckles will allow you to quickly detach the harness from any Kit Bag we've ever made, leaving it completely slick for dropping in a pack or easily switching between carry systems. Some great options for what to do with your Kit Bag after it is slick include:

  • Attache Strap
  • Pocket Sling
  • Recon Harness (as of now, the Recon Harness still ships with standard buckles, so you'll need a second QD buckle set to make swapping between standard and Recon Harness easier)

Converting your Kit Bag to take a QD harness requires a permanent DIY modification to your Kit Bag. Follow these steps to perform the conversion:

  • Get a pair of diagonal cutting pliers (dykes), a small saw, or the cut off wheel on a dremel tool. Diagonal cutting pliers are the easiest and safest in terms of not accidentally harming your bag.
  • Cut off the three sewn in 1.5" ladderlock buckles - two on the top, one on the left side. DO NOT harm the webbing that the buckles are sewn into. You are cutting and removing the plastic buckles ONLY.
  • Cut off the one sewn in 1.5" side release buckle from the right side. DO NOT harm the webbing that the buckle is sewn into. You are cutting and removing the plastic buckle ONLY. WEAR SAFETY GLASSES WHEN CUTTING/SAWING.
  • Unthread the old buckles from the harness
  • Thread the new buckles onto the harness
  • The male side release buckle that is threaded onto the harness may or may not interface properly with the new female buckle half from the kit because different brands of US made buckle have been used in that location over the years and they're not 100% compatible. This is why the retrofit kit includes a male buckle half as well.

Available only in black because the gatekeeper buckles are only available in black so it doesn't make a lot of sense to stock multiple colors for one piece of webbing and buckle on the lower right.
