Hello,

Anyone have experience with the Tarptent Hogback? Looking to pick one up to start camping with family (wife and our three kids < 5 years old).

Thanks.

I really considered them about 7 years ago when my sons were tweens. In the end we went with a tipi style tent - the Golite ShangriLa 5. Head room won out for me. I realize that the Hogback is 4' high in the middle, but that doesn't translate to headspace when I sit up, or so I figured. It seems to me that the Hogback was freestanding and I do like that in a tent.

Thanks for the feedback.

I would prefer a tipi style, but Boss Lady wants a bathtub floor to help combat bugs... I'm just trying to get us out the door with the three little ones.

I hear ya. We always used the inner nest with the tipi when we were out with our family. My wife enjoyed that part. I enjoyed running just the outer fly when I was by myself.

That being said I eventually sold it because my wife didn't like the center "chastity pole" (her words) between us.

I don't know what else is out there for tents similar to the Hogback, but I don't think you'd go far wrong with it. Tarptent seems to have decent resale value if you outgrow it in a few years.
