I have a 28L Thule Chronical backpack which, while comfortable and spacious for when I take it with me (errands and daytrips) is a bit too large, and therefore awkward-looking, to bring outside every day. I've got my heart set on a leather backpack to look more professional, but what size would be best for using in place of a purse? Any brands you recommend that aren't too heavy? Not limiting it to leather either, just want to be presentable for work and interviews

For non-leather options, you might want to look at the waxed canvas packs that Duluth Pack Company and Frost River make. Many of them have leather trim or accents.

I don't care for them for backcountry use, as the load carriage isn't very good, and nylon is just a much better outdoor material than waxed canvas.

I work in a casual environment, so I can get away with an Umlindi as my work backpack. If I had to be dressier, I'd consider one of the waxed canvas bags. They are quite well made and nice to look at. Their load carriage isn't as good, but unless you have a long commute on foot, they tend to spend most of their time not on your back.
