Hello, all.  Been a while since I've posted here, just been pretty settled with my kit.  Recently though I picked up a used Mystery Ranch fire pack (probably a Hot Top, predecessor to the Hot Shot).  I love the pack and it works well for me but it came with a S belt and I'd rather have a L/XL.  There's enough webbing but the padding is a bit short.  MR will sell me a new belt which I'm considering but I've been thinking maybe a Prairie or Recon belt would work a little better.  Both would give me more PALS webbing and are likely better made.

My question is has anyone here used a HPG belt on their MR fire pack? I checked with the guys and the size is the same (5.5" tall) so physicall it should fit.  If I go with a Prairie then I expect the G-hooks would work with the shoulder harness.  It might require some permanent surgury on the MR pack but probably doable.  But it's not a cheap experiement so I thought I'd hit up the folks here for input.

Thanks, all!

That sounds like an interesting project--do you have a wand to anchor?  I put a PB on an old Bozeman Dana AstralPlane without too much trouble--since there are two ArcFlex wands on either side of the suspension, a couple of G-hooks let me attach to the PB's PALs with no problem.  How that might work if you've got just one in the center of the pack, I'm not sure.  (FWIW, it probably isn't necessary, but if the MR uses hook-and-loop to capture the belt like the Dana does, you can add a couple of lengths of industrial-strength female Velcro tape to the PB...mine has held up surprisingly well.)

Thanks! I haven't torn down the pack but a cursory examination shows in the capture area there's velcro in the back.
