Ok, so little ditty I found.  (Link at the bottom)

100 Meters of 300# test, 1.0mm diameter spectra cord.  $13 shipped.  It works great for tent guy lines, shock cording items, etc.  And it's significantly cheaper than anything comparable I've found.

Also, Zpacks sells  'micro cord locks'  really cheap that work great with this cord for tents and tarps and stuff.

I also got in some sil-nylon tarps and an ultralight tent is on the way, found a source straight out of China that is selling them super super cheap.  They look good so far, construction and such is decent from what I can tell.  I still need to test them out.  But they are selling for like 1/4 - 1/3 the price of ANYTHING else here in the US.

They cheapo china sil-nylon is horrid. There is a reason that stuff is so cheap. Ron bell did a recent video HydroStatic head testing one of the knock offs.

Yea, I saw that. I've been testing one of the tarps all day today though - 8 hours and running now. Have it filled with about 8" of water and suspended, hasn't wetted out yet.

Also, unlike in that video, I haven't been able to rip this one even pulling it as hard as I could.

Ok, so after after letting the silnylon tarp sit full of water all day and zero leakage, I balled up a handful of water and twisted the top to seal it. Then squeezed it really, really hard and zero leakage. This is obviously not the same sil-nylon the MLD guys tested. I gotta get out and pitch one and actually test it out, but so far these look GTG.

Ok, so I got the tent I ordered in. I tested it the same way I tested the tarps. There is a huge difference in the fabrics used between the two brands.

The tarps held water as well as any sil nylon tarps I used. The tent held water until I started to squeeze it and it slowly started to wet out. Not quite as quick as in the video someone posted above, but it still happened.

The tarps AND the tent's fabric I couldn't rip, even after cutting a starting hole. Completely unlike the video above.

The tarps construction was better by a good bit. The tent's stitching needs to have the ends of the threads trimmed.

Basically, the tarps are good to go. The tent isn't up to par though. I'd buy the tarps again for sure. The tent, probably not, unless I was on an extreme budget It'd work ok though, if that's all that you could afford.

Thanks.

I ordered these:

Tarps:

And the tent:

I am selling the large tarp if anyone is interested and don't want to order from China. It's just too large for what I want it for. I forgot how big it was. I am keeping the small one though for sure.

I'll also sell the tent if anyone wants it. Otherwise I'll keep it for a loaner tent. It isn't bad for the price. Make a good starter or loaner tent.
