Hi there, Mike here from Sunny South Africa, Kwa-Zulu Natal on the East Coast.

Thought I'd stick my hand up before making myself comfy as a lurker. Found the HPG website through my ever-present search for a decent daypack. The Umlindi caught my eye for obvious reasons, and I got quite excited thinking HPG was based in South Africa. Pity our exchange rate is so bad at the moment.

Nevertheless, you guys make some awesome gear, well done! I'm also following Platypushiker on his AT trip, man I wish I could come and do some of your through hikes.

Pic of me and my son, getting him into the 'bush' while he's young.

Take care.

Greetings and welcome aboard!  Hope you enjoy the Forum.  I spent some time in South Africa last year in Limpopo at Rotavi Game Reserve, and am returning again later this summer....somewhere in the August or September timeframe.  While it's a bit harder to get HPG products in South Africa, it can be done.  Here are some links to a trip report I wrote about our adventures in the Bushveld for your reading enjoyment!

Thanks for the welcome Ken, most appreciated. Will have a read when the dust settles here ;)

Yes, Limpopo is stunning - some awesome areas there! I'm going to be in the Hluhluwe area at the beginning of next week for some work - far SE from Limpopo, but still great bushveld. Aug/Sept will be our late Winter, early Spring - best time to spend in the reserves, enjoy!

I've considered importing a few different bags over the last few months, but our import duties are crazy... 15% plus 40% landed for the likes of bags, so one ends up paying at least 50% more than what the item costs.

Welcome! Wish you had some better bag options in SA. Are imports as bad out of Australia? There are some good companies down there.

Thanks for the warm welcome Evan, much appreciated.
Yeah our options are somewhat limited - nothing creative from local manufacturers... We've got the likes of Osprey & TNF etc but very costly for short lifespan.
Any imports of bags attracts the same duties, just the postage that will differ.

Depending how business goes I might ask Ken if he's got some space for a few goodies.

How was overland expo?
