I just wrote a really long post, listing everything and their weights.... and somehow it erased it, so you're going to have to get the short version..
I am leaving Arkansas for Washington, DC on May 3rd, touring DC and picking up my Canadian hiking partner then heading to Harper's Ferry that night..... Starting the AT bright and early May 5th. We are going to hike North from HF to Maine, then flip back to HF and hike South to Georgia (we have both hiked northbound from GA to VA on the AT, Approx 700 miles last year)
I want to thank the people at Hill People Gear for being such amazing and kind people, and for giving me the opportunity to use some amazing HPG gear during this adventure. I am taking the HPG Ute w/ Tarapocket, and the HPG Runners Kit Bag. I will be writing a complete review of how the gear holds up to 5 months on the trail, and 2,189 miles.
I don't have any pictures of my clothes, but its all pretty cheap synthetic "qwik-dri" type shirts and short, no pants... Ingini Toe Sock liners, thins with Darn Tough socks (two pair, one ankle and one calve length) with a pair of thick wool socks for sleeping.
If anyone has any suggestions please feel free to give me your .02, I still have time to change some things if I want to.. I did drop the emergency blanket and warmers from the picture with the random kit gear, and have a pocket rocket stove on the way that will replace the heavy one I had. Decided on a Sig Sauer p238 .280 for my carry in the states that reciprocates Arkansas CHL. I am thinking about replacing the external battery in the picture because it's horrible, was supposed to be 50k MaH and it only gives me1 and a half charge on a 4500MaH Motorola Droid Turbo phone... just would take a little out of my hiking budget... so still deciding (a nice 22,500MaH at Best Buy is about 40$)
I know that a chair is a HUGE luxury item,, but it is just about my only one... so it's staying! Last year the thing I wanted to most was a comfortable place to sit down... and maybe a lower body fat %... lol
I want to give a big thanks to a few companies that have helped me get ready for this adventure!
First and foremost Hill People Gear, amazing people with great quality gear, I have already been converted to a huge fan, and I've only done practice hikes with the gear, Big Agnes, a great hiking gear company that has the best "free-standing" tents on the market in my opinion, great bags as well (they also are the USA seller for Helinox, which is the chair I brought), the people there have been great to me, and I look forward to working with them through the hike. Death Wish Coffee..... great "swag package" they sent me, and they sell the strongest coffee in the world (literally) that taste amazing, Everyone there seems like super cool people as well!
If anyone wants to follow our adventure this year.. I am on instagram as PLATYPUSHIKER, I am on Twitter @chefgauf, but I post my daily videos on facebook, and it gets everything that gets posted anywhere as well, so that would really be the best way, "Alex Gauf".. its the one in Arkansas, with a pic of a guy and a dog (maybe add a note if possible that you are from the forum, since this is my personal account)
Thanks, and God Bless America
