To all who shall read this: Greetings!

I would like to welcome your input on the subject of gaiters for protection against deep snow.

Background: I have used O.R. brand gaiters for many years but they leave something lacking. I need them for the winters I  Alaska where the snow is deep, and I know I have seen some that come up past the knee or so and cinch down with a drawstring, shock cord,  or shoe lace. Does anybody know if there is a brand that is durable? I would like them to pack down small too (I know, in a perfect world). Is there a brand that also works as a sort of pull over warming layer?

I also want to get some softshells from Sitka for my springtime walk/runabouts where I have on trail running shoes, or low top boots. Has anybody used them?

Thanks in advance for your time!
